Aligning Policy

As a follow up to all eight local authorities within CSEP achieving Beacon Council status for Sustainable Energy in 2005-2006, CSEP was awarded Beacon Peer Support funding to produce a report for government departments on national and local policy alignment of sustainable energy and climate change priorities, based upon the good practice achieved in Cornwall. The report includes recommendations on how the Government can align policies, be cost-effective and maximise efforts in areas such as:

• Addressing climate change;
• Regenerating communities and businesses;
• Improving the health of the nation;
• Increasing competitiveness.

by utilising the efforts of effective local sustainable energy partnership working led by local authorities but managed externally from each council.

The report was produced in two parts which are available below:

Part One: Local authority perspectives on national and local policy alignment.

Part Two: Recommendations for enhancing policy alignment, based on CSEP's experience.
