Education and Skills Group

The Education and Skills Group will help create a process that allows people to: develop an awareness of the need for sustainable energy; understand the opportunities and constraints; make informed decisions/opinions about the options and develop ownership of the outcomes and, importantly, will provide the key skills and education link with the development of an economic sustainable energy infrastructure in Cornwall.

The group will liaise directly with the Jobs and Industry and Health and Community Groups, will meet as and when required and will have the ability to appoint ‘task and finish’ working groups to further specific tasks on its behalf.

Education and Skills group members are to include:

  • Independent education and training providers (Eden/Cornwall Sustainable Building Trust / Community Energy Plus etc)
  • Further and Higher Education establishments
  • Cornwall Education Advisory Service and Local Authorities
  • The Learning and Skills Council

Aims of the Education and Skills Group:

The above combination of organisations/individuals with appropriate responsibilities and ability to influence decision makers is regarded as the appropriate forum to inform the Jobs and Industry and Health and Community Groups to enable the Partnership to:

  • Encourage integrated, coherent and mutually supportive, planning and implementation of sustainable energy educational & skills provision within Cornwall.
  • To stimulate the provision of skills education opportunities in: Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy related technologies and Manufacturing, maintenance and installation.
  • To stimulate the provision of new learning opportunities in: Efficient and sustainable use of energy from all sources and Renewable energy sources and uses.
  • To inform stakeholders in sustainable energy of learning opportunities which are available or are planned within the County. Stakeholders include the learning groups falling within the scope of the group’s attention, as well as, the more obvious, CSEP membership.
  • To encourage take-up of existing and new learning and skills opportunities available to the energy sector and which is partially led by the recognised demands for energy sustainability and mitigation of climate change.
  • To provide mutual support for new educational initiatives brought forward by the CSEP Delivery Groups, other organisations or parties currently not represented within the group, for projects allied to the aims and enabling actions of the group.

For details on the next meeting of the group, please see the CSEP Diary.
